Math Tutoring at Cuesta

MyMathLab registration:  If you bought a new textbook for Math 265A, 265B, 283, or 232 then you can register the access code to be able to use the publisher's online resources.  Note: I do NOT advocate that you buy a new textbook!  I don't think these resources are worth the cost of a new textbook.  There are other, better resources for free on the internet.

OpenStudy:  Online homework help for all levels of math...and it's free!  You can help or be helped (you get "medals" for helping...think of it as a game!).

Kahn Academy:  This is a free resource providing video clips of intruction in all sorts of disciplines! Definitely worth a look...

Paul's Online Notes:  Great reference for Calculus!

Graphing and Computer Algebra System Tools

CyMath:  Free solver that shows and explains solution steps

Desmos Online Graphing Calculator

DPGraph:  Free 3-D graphing program you can download.  (Instructions for download and use)

Link to WinPlot:  Free graphing program you can download

Wolfram Alpha - Online Computer Algebra System

Symbolab - Online solver...shows steps in solution so good for tutorial.  Use SPARINGLY!

About Learning:

Boston Globe article on learning...short and interesting.

Sal Khan on Struggle and Learning (short video)

Videotaped talk about "Studying Yourself Failing" in order to improve.  (I found this link on an adventure racing website, go figure!)

Bowman in Arabia...GREAT blog from a young American teaching math in Jordan.  Includes lots of interesting ideas about teaching and learning, including an explanation of the game "Spot It".

General Interest:

A Map of Mathematics - Briefly shows the various branches of modern math

The History of Measurements - A cool summary of how different forms of measurement have evolved over the years!

Why Should Biology Majors Study Calculus? (Quora)

The Feynman Series - Richard Feynman was a Nobel-prize winning physicist and he has a funny, witty, sassy, get-down-to-Earth viewpoint on many subjects.  You may not agree with him, but he'll get you thinking!

The Futures Channel:  Videos on how math relates to various types of jobs and careers, from farming to designing roller-coasters.

Free-fall with Air Resistance:  Amazing video of Jeb Corliss "flying" with a wing-suit.

Interview with Jeb Corliss after Table Mountain accident...very inspiring!
